The young people are correct about this one. I have checked.
"Chill" is a serving temperature and a temperament, and both are routinely gotten wrong. Whites too cold, reds not cold enough, and everyone at the table wound far too tight about all of it. Wine was invented so that people would sit down and be pleasant to one another. Being insufferable about it defeats the entire apparatus.
So: chill the bottle, chill yourself, and pour for the person next to you. That is the whole of wine law. Everything else is footnotes.
